State officials reported that Nevada roads had 25 fatalities in July, down from 28 last year, with 222 deaths recorded statewide through July showing fewer pedestrian and non-seatbelt deaths but more motorcycle fatalities.

Local law enforcement officers are filling backpacks with school supplies to ease back-to-school costs in Clark County, where many students come from low-income families, and they have already filled 200 of the 1,000 backpacks planned for delivery — a move that helps families manage nearly $900 expected per-child expenses.

The Clark County Division of Air Quality issued an alert for the valley until August 7 because wildfire smoke from California is expected to drift in.

The advisory warns residents to limit outdoor activity as heavy smoke may worsen air quality—especially for those with respiratory conditions.
