GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ As the federal shutdown stretches past one month, a Henderson mother who has not received pay for over 30 days has taken on extra food deliveries to support her family—she has started a GoFundMe page to cover basic needs and her daughters’ marching band fees. She said that some nights they wait for tips to afford dinner and face uncertainty with a possible missed paycheck in December—forcing her household to cope with ongoing financial stress. KSNV
- ➤ A local historian explained that any plan to restart nuclear testing at Nevada Test Site faces legal hurdles because the U.S. signed—but never ratified—a nuclear test ban treaty in 1992, making future tests legally complex. He said these challenges must be cleared before testing can resume. KSNV
- ➤ NDOT announced that from November 2 to November 7, both northbound and southbound lanes on I-15 will run on two lanes nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Sloan Rd and Starr Ave — intermittent ramp closures between Silverado Ranch Blvd and Sloan Rd may affect traffic, so drivers should use alternate routes if conditions change. - ➤ The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Series Las Vegas partnered with Vegas For Athletes to offer free heart screenings for over 500 local youth athletes—250 were screened on Sunday and another 250 are scheduled for today before a doubleheader at T-Mobile Arena. The screenings use quick ECG tests at WODE Athletic Center and are supervised by licensed medical professionals, with families receiving results within seven to 10 business days along with two free game tickets and a sponsor giveaway.
