ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Nearly 12 years ago, a local child was struck while trick-or-treating on Halloween with only a 10% chance of survival—she recovered and graduated from Shadow Ridge High School—and her family now urges drivers and pedestrians to exercise greater caution during Halloween.  KSNV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Clark County has launched a $250,000 grant program with Grow America that offers up to $25,000 to small businesses and property owners in District A for renovations and improvements—this initiative supports economic growth in the area.  KSNV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Clark County School District is working to reassign 97 support professionals and six licensed personnel who were not placed during the fall surplus process. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On October 30, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Clark County School District and the City of Henderson launched a Halloween-themed traffic safety initiative where officers wore costumes—like a big octopus—to ticket drivers who did not stop and to check for speeding, in response to a rise in pedestrian incidents with nearly 60 pedestrians killed and 159 children hit since August.  KSNV
  • The Southern Nevada Water Authority is asking residents and businesses to reset their irrigation clocks as mandatory winter watering restrictions will begin November 1, limiting sprinkler use to one assigned day per week while banning Sunday watering. • Nevada lawmakers unanimously approved $30.2 million in state funds along with nearly $8 million in redirected federal ARPA funds to help local food banks as thousands of families prepare to lose federal SNAP benefits amid a government shutdown threat—this combined $38 million will be split between the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and Three Square Food Bank to enable quicker food purchases and expanded distribution sites starting as soon as this weekend.  KSNV

HEALTH NEWS

  • A UMC doctor said fatal accidents with e-bikes and e-scooters involving children have surged, with deaths rising from four to nine this school year due to kids’ smaller size and limited judgment.
