Local shops in Henderson are struggling as tourism drops and some are closing early due to fewer night-time customers.

Community events like the Ready Set Expo help businesses connect, and one shop will open its first showroom on October 10—aiming to boost local trade.

Schools in the Valley are asking reliable adults to support campus safety through the 'Dads in Schools' program, which has 130 volunteers now at 39 schools—more than 100 additional schools have requested this help to keep students safe from inside and outside threats.

Founder Troy Martinez said volunteers let teachers focus on lessons while they keep watch on school grounds.

Clark County announced plans to build a new supplemental animal shelter and add emergency services at the Silver Bowl to ease overcrowding after over 3,000 pets were surrendered from January through August.

County officials approved nearly $40 million for the new shelter — plus an extra $3 million for a temporary facility — and the Nevada SPCA welcomed the effort to increase pet resources.

Dr. Rosanne Sugay of the Southern Nevada Health District explained that COVID-19, flu and RSV vaccines were available at SNHD clinics around the Las Vegas area—providing a new option for residents, and the announcement came on Wednesday, September 17th.
