COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Animal Foundation is asking for community help after reaching kennel capacity with 168 dogs taken in since September 7—officials say more dogs are arriving each day. The shelter urges locals to foster or adopt dogs with a free foster window open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. daily and in-person adoptions starting at 11 a.m. from Tuesday through Sunday.  KSNV
  • The Tunnel to Towers Foundation paid off the mortgages for the families of fallen Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant Michael Abbate and Trooper Alberto Felix as a tribute on the 9/11 anniversary+ both officers died in 2023 when a drunk driver struck them while they were assisting a roadside vehicle.  KSNV
  • The City of Henderson Police Department welcomed 22 new officers at a graduation ceremony on Thursday at Mosaic Church — 18 police officers and four correction officers completed rigorous training and took an oath to serve the community. The expanded force will strengthen patrol coverage and improve response times.  KSNV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Green Valley Ranch will unveil redesigned meeting and convention spaces after new carpeting, lighting, wallcoverings and furniture are installed. The 69,000 square foot upgrade will open in January next year — part of a $200 million property-wide redesign that also includes guest room renovations.  KSNV
  • Truckee Gaming, the new owner of Poker Palace in North Las Vegas, announced plans to temporarily close the casino on Oct. 1 for renovations that include a full redesign and a reopening early next year. Key salaried staff and security will be retained while managers move to Club Fortune in Henderson — the company’s only casino in the area.  KSNV
  • Local residents have helped boost casino earnings as tourism numbers fall. Station Casinos—owner of Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, and Durango—reported its best quarter ever with $526 million in earnings and is spending $200 million to update Green Valley Ranch while planning a new resort.  KSNV
