Good morning, Henderson.
After financial struggles forced a local woman to cancel her daughter's Quinceañera, community businesses and a former mariachi teacher surprised teen Lupita with a celebration that included her dream dress—sponsors paid for the venue, makeup, and photography.
A new charter school named WYLEES opened a month ago at Boulevard Mall and held its ribbon cutting on Friday with 210 students learning through project based courses.
The school is in a 46,000 square foot former call center that offers a four day school week with plans to add high school—school leaders say it gives students a safe, hands on learning environment.
The Nevada Highway Patrol launched a pedestrian safety campaign on September 5 that will run until September 22—aiming to curb roadway deaths after 58 pedestrians lost their lives from January 1 to July 31.
The patrol is working with other law enforcement agencies to remind both drivers and pedestrians to stay alert on busy roadways.
The City of Henderson Police Department is running its 12th Joining Forces enforcement initiative—begun on September 5 and continuing through September 22—to improve pedestrian safety at marked crosswalks.
