Good morning, Henderson.
On Thursday at 6:40 p.m., Henderson police reported a 12-year-old boy missing after he drove off in a black 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe near Windmill Parkway and Pecos Road—he was found around 12:30 a.m. on Friday and his actions have raised questions about juvenile behavior and parental supervision.
Nevada residents are buying lottery tickets in neighboring states as the Powerball jackpot grows to $1 billion because the local gaming industry has opposed a state lottery that could hurt local casinos.
Professor David McCuan said a state lottery may appear in two to four years—buyers in California avoid a state tax while those in Arizona face a 6% tax, and the next drawing is today at 8 p.m.
Clark County officials are reminding Henderson residents that September is National Preparedness Month—urging them to prepare disaster kits, plan meeting points, and stay updated on hazards like wildfires and earthquakes.
The county will host an information table at the Government Center in downtown Las Vegas from September 8 to September 18 and encourage signing up for the Great Nevada ShakeOut on October 16.
The DMV offices were closed for a week due to a ransomware attack, and state officials said the website remains limited while other services operate normally.
