- ➤ Parents at Beatty Elementary say that jaywalking and speeding cars make school drop-off and pick-up dangerous, so they launched a petition for a new crosswalk near the entrance—aiming to have it in place before Thanksgiving break. Clark County officials are reviewing the safety concerns and working with school representatives to consider safer engineering options. KSNV
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Meelad Dezfooli, a Nevada man from Henderson, was sentenced on Thursday to over 15 years in prison for fraudulently obtaining more than $11 million in PPP loans—he will also serve five years of supervised release, pay almost $11.8 million in restitution, and forfeit two vehicles and five properties. - ➤ RTC announced it will add 484 new shade structures at bus stops to ease the urban heat island effect in our valley. The project will include 150 standard shelters and 125 slimline shelters (designed for narrow sidewalks) over the next two years to protect riders from intense heat. KSNV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Nevada State University in Henderson announced it will be a tobacco-free campus starting Monday, Aug. 25 — the new policy bans cigarettes, cigars, pipes, electronic devices, smokeless tobacco and cannabis for all students, faculty and visitors. The rule covers all indoor and outdoor spaces on campus. KSNV
