- ➤ Walker Furniture honored ten U.S. military personnel and veterans this past weekend as part of its 11th annual Help for Heroes program—customized furniture including adjustable beds, lift chairs, and recliners was awarded during a ceremony and luncheon. The honorees were chosen from community nominations and received furniture tailored to their needs. KSNV
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Henderson Fire Department responded to a school bus fire on Interstate 11 near Auto Mall Drive shortly after 3 p.m. on August 14th — only the driver was on board and no injuries were reported. KSNV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Clark County School District started the school year with the fewest teacher vacancies in years, though 163 of the 320 open positions are in special education—district leaders said a $45 million funding boost and a $5000 pay increase for special education teachers will help fill these roles. Officials will continue working with UNLV and other partners to bring in more licensed professionals. KSNV
- ➤ Lundy Elementary School reopened on Monday after a two-year closure caused by Tropical Storm Hilary—marking a milestone with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a series of repairs, security, technology, drainage, and septic system upgrades. Staff and students returned as the campus began operating with its improved facilities. KSNV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Henderson Police Department is enforcing distracted driving laws through its 11th Joining Forces initiative, which started August 14 and will run until September 1—boosted by a $179,000 grant that funds enhanced roadway safety measures. KSNV
