- ➤ Pipeline Malasadas is partnering with the Nevada SPCA for a month-long DOGust Donation Drive to help shelter pets until August 30 — customers who donate unopened items like pet food, leashes, and blankets will get one raffle ticket per day with a drawing on September 3 for a $100 gift card. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An 80-year-old Henderson man was arrested after his 2019 Toyota Camry hit three pedestrians at the intersection of Pecos Road and Tropicana Avenue late Tuesday—two are in critical condition and one was released with injuries. KSNV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The College of Southern Nevada announced that financial aid will be released on September 10 only after instructors verify student attendance, a change made after a $7.5M fraud loss and a continuing budget deficit. Classes will begin on August 25 and some students have already expressed concern (fraud). KSNV
- ➤ The Clark County School District board will review a new teacher contract today that examines veteran salary placement after teachers said new hires were paid more—official approval will extend the contract until June 2027. KSNV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today the Nevada Highway Patrol and state law enforcement agencies launch the Joining Forces Distracted Drivers campaign—which runs until September 1—to boost patrol visibility and teach drivers about the dangers of phone use and other distractions. The campaign aims to reduce crashes by reminding motorists to keep their focus on driving. KSNV
- ➤ Officials say a 60 percent rise in E-bike deaths is pushing cities in southern Nevada to tighten safety rules for electric bikes and scooters—Boulder City will review new rules on Aug. 26 while Henderson and Las Vegas already enforce measures like speed limits and safety gear requirements. KSNV
