CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities are searching for suspects who threw large rocks from a freeway overpass in Henderson on Sunday, Aug. 10, injuring two drivers and damaging at least four cars — the perpetrators left before officers arrived after reports at 8:43 p.m.  KSNV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new survey from the UNLV Center for Business and Economic Research shows that Nevada’s long-term unemployed faced major barriers reentering the workforce in 2024 — job preference mismatches, transportation issues and gaps in training and certification were highlighted from responses in Clark, rural areas and Washoe counties. The survey gathered 310 responses with a 6 percent margin of error and signals a need for improved connections between job seekers and available roles.  KSNV
  • Southern Nevada's tourism slowdown has raised worries about overreliance on hotels and attractions as M-P Materials in Summerlin signed deals with the U.S. Department of Defense and Apple—promising to invest hundreds of millions, add jobs, and supply rare earth materials to the military.  KSNV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nevada Supreme Court ruled in favor of former Raiders coach Jon Gruden in his lawsuit against the NFL and allowed the case to proceed in public—Gruden said the league leaked emails that made him resign in 2021.  KSNV

SPORTS NEWS

  • UNLV football coach Dan Mullen and the Rebels received preseason attention after earning 21 points on three voters’ ballots in the AP Top 25 poll released Monday — they ranked between Nebraska and Toledo. They will start their season at Allegiant Stadium on Aug. 23rd with a Week 0 matchup against Idaho State.  KSNV
