ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Fire season is under way in southern Nevada as thick smoke was seen above Sam Boyd Stadium from the Wiesner Fire at Wetlands Park—10 wildland fires burn statewide, including the Conner Fire in Douglas County that has burned over 17,000 acres and is 96% contained. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford announced that the launch of Nevada S.A.V.E.—a new victim notification system—will be delayed until late August instead of July 1 to allow community partners extra time to address potential issues. The system will focus on notifying victims about offender updates while the current VINE system continues to operate until the new system goes live.  KSNV
  • Clark County has 106 stands selling fireworks until the Fourth of July + only approved “Safe and Sane” fireworks that do not explode or fly are available to lower fire and injury risks in hot, dry weather. Fireworks are illegal in certain public areas and buyers should follow safety guidelines such as keeping water nearby.  8 News Now
