COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Blind Center of Nevada is building Visions Park, a 100-unit affordable housing project for people who are blind or visually impaired near its main campus close to downtown Las Vegas—this collaborative effort uses state and local funds and is about halfway complete with plans to finish by April 2026.  KSNV
  • Firefighters from Clark County Fire Department and the Department of Emergency Management released summer safety tips to help locals enjoy the outdoors safely as temperatures rise. They advised residents to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothes, and monitor weather forecasts—measures meant to reduce risks of heat exhaustion, flash floods and wildland fires.  KSNV
  • Cowabunga Bay and Cowabunga Canyon will host the 16th Annual World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on June 26 to teach kids water safety—each child who finishes a lesson will receive a free ticket for a later visit. Cowabunga Vegas opened its Henderson and Summerlin locations on May 18 and now operates seven days a week throughout the summer.  KSNV

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said that on Wednesday night a truck ran a red light and collided with two cars—causing a fiery crash that involved three vehicles at the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Jones Boulevard—and one driver was arrested for suspected DUI with only minor injuries reported.  8 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spread the Word Nevada has distributed 8 million books over 25 years to boost childhood literacy among low-income communities and now helps 81 schools by sending 70,000 books each month. The non-profit will also receive donations for Founders Day—an effort to support reading for Pre-K to 5th-grade students.  8 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nevada Supreme Court allowed Gov. Joe Lombardo's lawsuit to proceed after overturning a lower court ruling that had dismissed his complaint against the ethics commission—justices ruled his delay in serving the Attorney General was acceptable—and the case is sent back to Carson City District Court for further proceedings.  KSNV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Supported by UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid, the Mujeres Fuertes Project now brings mobile health care to local neighborhoods. The project works with Hope Christian Health Center (which supplies the mobile unit) and Promotor@s Las Vegas to offer services like cervical cancer screenings and HIV testing so women can access care without an appointment.  8 News Now
  • UMC pediatrician Dr. Seth Ball warned parents to watch for early signs of heat-related illness in children — including unusual sweating, rashes, fussiness, and changes in feeding — and to act quickly when these symptoms appear. He stressed that early detection is crucial to prevent severe heat injuries during the high desert summer.  KSNV
