EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Links, Incorporated sponsored a one-day STEM program for 150 local students at UNLV during the 47th Western Area Conference from June 11-15 — the event partnered with STEM-Global Network to offer hands-on activities that aimed to spark interest in STEM careers for African American and minority students. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Entrance to Death Valley National Park will be free on Thursday, June 19 to celebrate Juneteenth National Independence Day as superintendent Mike Reynolds noted the park offers great views despite high temperatures. Park rangers recommend that visitors take safety precautions by staying near air-conditioned vehicles — wearing hats, carrying water, and seeking shade during the hottest hours. KSNV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ NDOT announced overnight lane reductions on I-11/U.S. 95 near Flamingo Road for bridge joint maintenance. Southbound lanes will be reduced to two lanes from June 15th to June 20th and northbound lanes will face similar restrictions from June 22nd to June 27th between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. — motorists are advised to plan for delays. - ➤ NDOT announced revised overnight lane closures as it replaces I-515 signs with I-11 signs along key freeways including roads in Henderson. Drivers will face lane reductions and closures starting at 9:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15 and continuing through 5:00 a.m. Friday, June 20—work that is weather dependent. KSNV
