COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ethel M Chocolates donated $30,000 raised from its holiday garden activations to local nonprofits (Three Square and HELP of Southern Nevada) when representatives accepted the funds on Monday at its Flagship Store and Botanical Cactus Garden. The donation is funded by split entrance fees from its seasonal displays (Holiday Cactus Garden Lights and Lights of Love) and will support programs to reduce homelessness.  KSNV
  • Memorial Day weekend will bring a wide range of family-friendly events across the valley, including flag placements, bike rides, concerts, and community block parties—officials advise travelers to plan for heavy traffic, check bus schedules, and follow safety guidelines for airport travel and barbecuing.  KSNV

CRIME NEWS

  • Police investigated a shooting incident just after 7 a.m. early Wednesday in Southern Highlands near a Boys and Girls Club at the corner of Shinnecock and Highlands Parkway — no injuries were reported and authorities are checking if Desert Oasis High School was placed on lockdown.  KSNV
  • A family is taking legal action after video showed 25-year-old Dalton Hannah being fatally shot at a Henderson towing company on Oct. 10; police closed the case due to insufficient evidence—while the family disputed the claim that the employee acted in self-defense.  8 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A physician-assisted suicide bill stalled in the Senate — Governor Lombardo said he would veto it. Assembly Bill 346 was introduced on May 16 to let terminally ill patients get life-ending medication and it will not move forward by the Friday deadline.  KSNV

SPORTS NEWS

  • On May 21, 2025, Nevada State University announced its new women's flag football and men's track and field programs, making it the first college in the state to offer these sports. Thirty-one athletes have already committed, and the university is working with consultants and head coaches for the inaugural season set to begin in spring 2026.  KSNV
  • Las Vegas Aces announced their first Fantasy Camp for adults that will run Aug. 1-3 and let fans choose to act as players or coaches while enjoying VIP access, suite game tickets, and behind-the-scenes experiences at the team headquarters in Henderson — the camp package includes round-trip airfare, a two-night stay at Mandalay Bay, and costs $4,950.  KSNV
  • The Vegas Golden Knights signed forward Tuomas Uronen to a three-year contract after he tied for the team lead with 90 points in 63 games with the Kingston Frontenacs. The 20-year-old from Kerava, Finland was chosen in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.  KSNV
