EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kristan Nigro, a kindergarten teacher and board member with the local teachers union, filed a federal lawsuit against the school district, its police department, and other officials on April 11. She alleges she was wrongfully arrested during an August 2023 board meeting when she protested for a new contract+she says the arrest caused her great emotional distress and violated her rights. KSNV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, Henderson celebrated its 72nd birthday as it marked its incorporation on April 16. The city traces its roots to 1936 when Howard Eells acquired magnesium mineral rights and built a plant during World War II — the world’s largest at the time that spurred rapid growth. KSNV
- ➤ Attorney General Aaron D. Ford co-led a group of 40 state and territory attorneys general urging HHS to have the hotline operator share human trafficking tips quickly with local law enforcement—aiming to stop modern slavery. The coalition's letter calls for the next operator to work more closely with authorities so that reports, especially about adult victims, are sent without delay. KSNV
- ➤ The northbound I-15 off-ramp to Frank Sinatra Drive and T-Mobile Arena will reopen on April 18th to support playoff traffic as the Vegas Golden Knights prepare for postseason play. NDOT said the ramp has been closed since work started in 2022 on the I-15/Tropicana project, which is scheduled to finish by year’s end. KSNV
