COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tuesday, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada provided shelter and supplies to 34 residents displaced by a two-alarm fire at an apartment complex near Valley View Blvd. The organization is coordinating ongoing support for those affected.  KSNV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Drivers in Las Vegas are paying over $4 per gallon (up from about $3), and families are rethinking school drop-offs. Local experts say global supply limits and California refinery closures are driving the price hike.  KSNV
  • Rideshare driver Jim Ehlinger says rising gas prices have forced him to work longer hours on the road, which he says is unsafe and cuts into his income. His experience highlights how higher fuel costs are challenging local drivers.  KSNV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Over the past two months, more than 200 community members (34% parents and 33% teachers) took a survey on local school issues, with many pointing to class sizes and discipline as top concerns.   • Students, educators and community members met Tuesday evening at Chaparral High School to discuss mental health support available in schools — the panel, organized by Trustee Linda Cavazos, stressed the importance of open conversations and proper resources.  KSNV

  • Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford said on Monday the state will continue its antitrust case against Live Nation + several other states, arguing the DOJ settlement does not address concerns over monopolistic practices.  KSNV

  • Michael J. Fox Foundation is hosting a Parkinson's research event this weekend in Henderson — offering resources and updated findings for people with the condition and their families.  KSNV
