CULTURE NEWS

  • Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II held a ceremony at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign on Thursday to celebrate Black History Month. The landmark was lit in red, black, and green as he honored five local groups supporting African American heritage in our region.  KSNV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Due to a $50 million funding cut, CCSD schools will increase class sizes next school year, with classrooms growing from about 27 to 30 students to between 38 and 40. The district will reassign staff and freeze new hires, prompting concerns among teachers + parents about classroom management.  KSNV
  • Voting is now open for the third annual Sphere XO Student Design Challenge (Pi Day) that invites local students to cast votes on creative designs through its event app. The contest appreciates youth innovation and runs in celebration of Pi Day.  KSNV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A Turkish couple seeking refuge faced hardship when Emine discovered her pregnancy during a 122-day detention at the local center—she received no prenatal care and lost most belongings; they were released last month yet remain anxious as they plan a fresh start.  KSNV
  • Government Wash at Lake Mead Recreation Area will reopen at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 after park officials cleared 12,000 pounds of trash and restored access roads and campsites. The site, closed since August 2024 due to unauthorized encampments and resource damage, now offers improved visitor services.  KSNV
