- ➤ Local groups host blanket and coat drives to assist those in need. The Clothes for Comfort drive, led by Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, accepts donations until March 1 at Henderson sites — United Way of Southern Nevada will host 18th Women United Suit Drive with sorting sessions on March 3 and 5. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Roosevelt Toston, the valley's first Black news anchor, started as a Channel 3 cameraman and reporter before joining Channel 8 where he boosted ratings—News 3 celebrates 100 years of Black history. Toston, also an author, looks to inspire future storytellers. KSNV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ CCSD's fall school budgets dropped by $50 million as lower enrollment and rising staff costs drove the cuts — 284 schools were affected, with some set to receive extra funding while others face potential staff changes and can appeal until tomorrow. KSNV
- ➤ The Clark County School District and the Clark County Educators Association signed a memorandum of understanding today to let educators donate sick leave to their colleagues. Superintendent Jesus Jara said the measure fills a gap not covered in the previous agreement. KSNV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ This week, the Legal Aid Center, county, and local courts will expand the Eviction Diversion Program to help seniors and those with disabilities in Henderson and North Las Vegas by offering rental assistance and housing stability assessments. The program (with nearly 90% success) aims to keep residents in their homes amid rising rent pressures. KSNV
