- ➤ Shirley Raines, founder of Beauty 2 The Streetz, died on Tuesday night after being found unresponsive in her home during a wellness check. The nonprofit, known for its community outreach and beauty services, said no foul play is suspected and is awaiting autopsy results. KSNV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The CCSD is asking volunteers to join home visits on Feb. 2 and Feb. 3 in select school areas as part of its Bright Futures Initiative — trained site leaders and officers will support families with students showing chronic absenteeism. KSNV
- ➤ Communities in Schools of Southern Nevada is providing essential resources — food, clothing, and housing connections — to homeless students on school campuses like Rancho High School. A 2020 graduate credits the program with helping her pursue a nursing degree. KSNV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A judge set an emergency hearing on Feb. 4 for local residents challenging SNWA's plan to replace grass with drought-tolerant alternatives as part of new water conservation rules. KSNV
- ➤ Tomorrow, Clark County will resume its annual Point in Time homeless count to survey individuals in shelters and on the street for HUD grants. Hopelink of Southern Nevada has partnered with Slim Chickens in Henderson for a fundraising event that started this morning and runs through today. KSNV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Health care workers gathered Wednesday night near St. Rose Sienna hospital in Henderson to honor Alex Pretti as part of a nationwide movement by National Nurses United. A similar vigil is scheduled for Sunday outside Downtown Las Vegas courthouse. KSNV
