EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Clark County School District announced that new start times (middle at 7:30 a.m., high schools at 8:30 a.m., and elementary at 9:15 a.m.) will take effect next school year after a December survey; some parents voiced concerns about earlier middle school times during Tuesday’s board meeting. - ➤ The City of Henderson will break ground on its new preschool and early childhood education center on Monday, Jan. 26 at 122 Scarhill Track Ave (priced at $17.6 million) to boost childcare and offer hands-on training for college students. The facility is set to complete in 2027. KSNV
- ➤ Clark County School District will change school start times for nearly 280,000 students beginning August 10 and is hiring 51 extra bus drivers to handle added transportation needs + the district will fund the changes with a one-time $5.6 million bond and annual operating costs of about $5.1 million. KSNV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ SNWA is implementing Assembly Bill 356 by removing nonfunctional turf and replacing it with at least 50% tree coverage — this plan is set to be completed by Jan. 1, 2027 and aims to save water while drawing criticism from tree advocates who claim it will worsen urban heat. KSNV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UMC is now the only hospital in Nevada to earn Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center + it celebrated with a sparkling apple cider toast while joining only 10% of U.S. hospitals committed to nurse excellence and collaborative patient care. KSNV
